Ray (Civil Right)

I watch his movie before it is a story of a man called Ray Charles which this story is real. He grown up from a poor family and his eye are blind by an accident. Therefore he really good at instrument especially piano and he can write a song also. In the movie he always thought about his past while he working (writes and play music) that it is about his mother which made him angry and sadness. He is a genius in music every song he writes and play will go to the Top Ten music at that time. However, he has s trouble with his wife who has one boy with him because he has an affair with a lady who is his chorus. In a good of his he change his mind and return to his family but another problem has come because he use drug which he cannot play piano and made him always angry with his colleague but this time he also quit the drug and he died peacefully. His best music are "Georgia," "Born to Lose".

My opinion is this is a first movie about black American which made interest about Blue, Jazz and Pop music. This movie shows a very good song in the old day which it still good for a moment. Another aspect of this movie shows is about Racism and the cruel prejudices against the blind which we can see clearly and how he can solved this problem.

Thin Red Line

At the beginning of this movie talking about a man, his name is Mitt who escaped from the army because he doesn’t want to go to the war; he wants to live alone with the bushman and keeps in peace stay away from the brutal, ruthless and cruel until the ship came to him at the island where he lives. Therefore the leader of his company help him from the military court but it isn’t because he has to go to the suicide war at the island named “the rock” in the Char lee’s company, this war has caused by the settlement of landing of airplanes to have more power of aircraft. At the ship that bring the armies to the island, the battalion express his feeling to the general that his duty is not the fight of wars but it’s about flatter to leader, no one care of him except his family but he has to leave them at back for his job. After move the armies onto the island, the company was stick on the mountain hill that the Japanese armies already prepare and set up the defense for them then the leader the company whose name is “Staros” rejected the order of battalion because his men was killed at the back side of the mountain hill while the battalion insist to direct attack to the Japanese armies until they can take up the position. In this chapter, there is an explanation of the soldier named “John” about how much he loves with his girl friend who engaged with him but it doesn’t go long, his girl friend send a letter to him that she wants to divorce because she is very lonely and needs someone to take care of so she falls in love with other man. At the end of story Mitt was killed by Japanese army and the battalion feels sad about Mitt who is the one he likes, the story end up with winner of American army. This story shows how the war has many effects to human life or mind, moreover the one they love such as their family and their lovers.

My opinion is I like this movie which if we are in this situation I think, I will not enjoy that much. The World War II caused many people life and countries because only a few people are lost their advantage.

I write out what I think about this song because she is very famous last two or three years ago as a best Jazz singer of the year( Grammy Award,MTV award,etc.) and other song in this CD are not familiar especially Blue music (Who are they?). I think Jazz is very good music for relaxation and I cannot believe that Jazz come after Blue song just a few year later.

Gospel

Here come to the civil right time, that people have the right for their own such as the right to vote for women or discrimination. This story focused on the right of people that they are free to choose what they want to be or what they want to do through the people in the church or gospel.

It is begin with a young man, the leader on the gospel who his father is Bishop of the church. His father is working very hard in the church which has a problem with the dept. They need more donations to keep on operating the church. Meanwhile, David’s mother is death because of illness. David angry on his father that he is not takes care of his mother. Therefore, David quit from working at the church and turns to famous singer in fact he could be the bishop like his father but he lets his friend Frank to be instead of him. After 13 years, he heard that his father is sick so he goes back home and found that his father is very pain caused by the cancer until death. David would like to continue his father wish by build a new church. Therefore, he decide to be singer at the church again or gospel by hopes that there will be a lot of donation for the church because he is famous. However, Frank does not think that is a good idea because David is a singer that his song is a little bit sexy. Anyway, they did it and end up with a good donation. After his father pass away, he has a fight with Frank also his dating who hers boyfriend come back from military then he is heart broken. Therefore, David nowhere to go and he is confusing with his lost, he is crying and blame his destiny to God. Finally, David changes his mind and come back to the church and he believes in God again.

My opinion is at first after finish this movie I thought that what the movie say anything about civil right but now I know that it referred to civil right of people to choose his own destiny not even David but also, his father to choose his own job which he has to leave his wife or the movie did not say anything or mind is wrong.

Operation Pacific (WWII)

This is about navy love story in the time of WWII, the American soldier fighting with the Japanese which the story focused on submarine. The story begins at the shore, the submarine navy helping people who have been catch by Japanese. Most of them are children and nun also a little baby that just born. Along the way back to the based, they have to pass the entire enemy troop. The commander, Duke, he is an ex-husband of Mary. She is a nurse at the dock. They are used to have a baby but they lost him (Butch). When he arrived at the based, he goes right away to the hospital to see Butch and he met Mary. They talked about their life, love and their lost baby. There will be a prom that Mary introduces Bob as her date. Duke has to go back to work again. At the war, he learnt that the bomb is not quite good then; they come back and fixed it. But this time he lost his commander, Pop, he is a brother of Bob. Bob blamed Duke about he let Pop get killed. Later on, at the war again but this time there are fighting air plane which Bob fly it and he is got shot and fall down to the ocean. Duke can come and save him on time which all around with the enemy. Finally, Mary come back to Duke adopted Butch as his son.

My opinion is this is kind of love movie that war movie because I can feel a little bit of war when they had s fight under the sea but most of the story focused on the relationship between them. I think because people at that time are sick of the war so they should do something about entertaining people but still related with the to time of war.

Santa and Pete (Christmas Story)

This is a good story for goodnight to children with a including the culture and history of American and where the Santa clause come from. The story tells by grand father to grand son on a Christmas time. The story begin with a man who everybody call them Saint Nick(Hume Cronyn) traveling the world until he met Pete (Flex Alexander) and Pete help him for escape then he decided to go everywhere with Saint. Along both journey they met with many people such as a woman who finding her husband with only ring as a clue, a missing children family and Red Indians. This story referred many cultures and history of America as its story tells about a new world that Santa and Pete go to (America), meet with a black people (Slave story) and Red Indians (invasion).Later on the story can answer the missing jigsaw a long with the history.

My opinion is the story can lead to the question that kid wants to know about the new world ,black people, Indians which where they come from and what is the real story.
Therefore, their parent will have a chance to tell child with their own curious without a boring if their parent just tell them exactly what happened.

The Grapes of Wrath
This story tell us in the time of Grate Depression, which most of people in United state suffered from starving, homeless, unemployment, etc. From the movie a man name Tommy, he was paroled from prison. He hurried back to his home at the Oklahoma to see his family. When he arrived at home with warm welcome he found that his family is leaving hometown to California for searching a job (picking Fruit)

Therefore, with a very long distance they lost grand mother and grand father because of starving and illness while they going across Arizona. This area make their children feel strange and feel uncomfortable because it all around with a dessert.

However, they can across the country to California which they are much exited with their arrived and also a magnificent view make them more surprise. Then, they searching for job that they saw it from flies but it is not what they thought that every from every where also come here for job which is not enough. They went to the camp which full with people from many places.

Finally, they got a job as a cotton picker but with very low money per day .Tommy Joads while his work at the government camp as a pickers. He met his friend which made him killed a man. Then, he felt that this will cause his family a trouble so, he decided to run out of the camp with his mother good bye.

My opinion about this story that why the government did not do anything about this situation even though there are a lot of land to growing plant which belong to the government. Some people tell me that this situation cause them because of what they did in the past that come back to them (Red Indians)

Cheyenne Warrior
A young couple, Matthew and Rebecca, she is pregnant. They have to move westward but with a bad weather make them slowly journey and they need a good horse but they could not find them. At the same shop, two men came for trade a rifle who they are white men. Meanwhile, the Indian come to the shop that they stop by his name is Hawk, he is Cheyenne Indian tribe, come for trades also come for finding who killed a buffalo. Anyway, all around the country get killed by smallpox actually most of them are Red Indians. Mathew go out in early morning to warn two men which they killed buffalo but he got shot by them. The Indians come right away to them and they are fighting but Hawk still alive and also one of white guy. That white guy come back to the shop and lie the lady that they killed her husband. The white guy killed the shop owner but he also gets killed by Hawk and he get cure by the lady. Then there are Red Indians from other tribes come to the shop and they are fight till those Indians run away back just one Indian left. Hawk left the shop for his people left and Rebecca going to have baby. Hawk comes back with his people to help her about a baby. She has a little boy. By the time buffalo come back from the season change which then are needed by the Indians and Hawk too. When Hawk ‘s people come to him for warning him that Crazy Buffalo would kill Rebecca because he thought she killed his men but Hawk is resist to save her as she save him from the wound. Later on, Hawk bring her to the east for her people on the journey they met with white men but The Indians come (Pony tribe) and killed white men and Hawk help white men killed them.
Hawk‘s mother get killed by them. At the end they are falling in love but with a different culture and nationality in the time of invasion make them separate, Hawk must to take care his tribe and Rebecca must take care her son.

My opinion about this story which gives me a support document that the invasion from western expansion causes many people especially Indians who they fight for their land. Therefore, Indians has to defending from other tribes also.

George Nelson (Baby Face)

Why we have to study about him, George Nelson or Baby Face? The answer is he is a famous character of the criminal at the Great Depression period. Therefore, in the class, we heard about his name again on the “O Brother, Where Art thou?” remember?

It was the real story about him on the bad character since The Great Depression time (economic slump) which made people suffered from unemployed and staving.

Baby face (look at on his face), actually he has many names such as Alex Gillis, Lester Giles, “Big” George Nelson, etc.

He was born in the year 1908 and died in 1934.He was very most wanted by the FBI as he killed many FBI agent at that time.

Let’s talk about him; he was born by the name Lester Joseph Gills on December 6, 1980 in Chicago. He was one of seven children in his family. His father left him but he had two rules to teach their kids which are no one touch the family car and no guns of any kind.

At the age of 12, he did the first car thief and was arrest at the age of 13.However, he did it again but this time he was sentenced 18 months in the jail. Then, his father was a drunker and upset with his son so, he committed suicide.

Anyway, He married with Helen Wawzynak and has one son and one daughter. She always helped him even though he did many crimes (murderer, robbery and gangster).

He was arrest and sentenced for life for bank robbery in 1931 and he could escape in 1932 while transfer the prisoner, he use a hand gun which believed that his wife made for him. Then, they moved to California at long beach and met John Paul Chase.

However, they went to robed the bank in Indiana where they met with Dillinger and friends of Barker/Karpis gang.

In 1933, One of the gangster killed H.C.Perrow , the detective of Texas. Therefore, the end of this gangster has come; in 1934 the FBI surprised them in the lodge after they knew that the entire member is in the Chicago. At that time they had a fight, Nelson killed W. Carter Baum, FBI agent and he could escape but on July 22, 1934, Dillinger was shot and killed in Chicago.
All the members were most wanted by the FBI and FBI; Samuel P. Cowley knew that Nelson is still in Barrington, Chicago. They went to that area where they had gun battle.
Instantly, Agent Herman Edward were shot and died and also Inspector Samuel p. Cowley wounded and died in the next day.

Although, the FBI agents were killed but this time, the last day of George Nelson has come, he also critical wounded with 17 wounds and died. What about his wife and Chase? Helen was arrest and Chase also, he died in jail by the cancer.

My opinion, I think at that time there would be many crimes but the famous and most wanted criminal was George Nelson (Baby face) because he killed many FBI agency and he could succeed on robed the bank and his life was beginning with bad luck the same as many people in the time of the Great Depression that was reflect people’s life.

The Adventures of Jim Bowie

The film directed by Lewis R. foster, to show the life (occupations), society (greedy) and problem (poverty) in the time of nation building through the adventures of Jim Bowie (Scot Forbes) who is adventure in the Louisiana.

First journey of him is to searching for the blacksmith because he needs a good knife with his own design because he likes to use knife than gun. However, along of his way he has to encounter with many things like a bear, woman and ambush while he is traveling to village to village.

At that time, every places full with poor people so, Jim was attacked by the thief after they saw Jim full with money but he fight back until they gone. One day, Jim met with blacksmith and asked him to make a knife for him but he cannot because his eyes are unfocused anymore. Then, Jim helps him by buy him glasses so that is the story when he got a knife.

His next journey, he met with the woman (Regina) while he’s hunting the bird but it was a bad first met because they had a fight for bird that they were caught. Jim looking for place to stay at night and He met the man (Borshaw) who needs a doctor for his pregnant wife (Catherine).Mr.Borshaw was refused by Regina about the doctor she has because she needs him to get out of hers land. However, Jim helps him after he knows that he knew the doctor. Therefore, Catherine was fine and also hers baby with the help of doctor and Regina herself.

Meanwhile he was traveling around looking for products to trade. He was interesting to buy fur but no want to sell him. Therefore, he knows the problem of the western company in monopolize that make no one wants to sell fur to Jim although he gives more expensive in each fur. Then, He sends the news about this problem to the government of France to solve this problem until people can have the free trade.

On last of his journey, he is going back home but he was ambush by men and he can pass through it and searching for the result why they want to kill him. Then, he understand the entire problem that the people have no land to live because the greedy of human (Mr.Duprey), He wants to sell the land that not belong to him by make the new of title deed for a piece of land with the help of cousin of Jim. Anyway, Jim was not agree with it until they had a fight and Mr.Duprey was killed by Jim’s cousin after Mr,Duprey try to kill Jim.

It is shows that at that time people are greedier or think only their own to staying alive. Anyone who has power of land (owned land) is greedier; they will not let anyone come to their land even though they hunt for living. Also, the shortage of doctor made people suffered from illness. Finally, the poverty made people have the less chance to live at the time of nation building because the unfair or help of government that is not enough.

Young Guns

This is s cowboy story. It is begin with the man from England named John Tunstall who is a cattle rancher. He helps a young man who lost his way of life; some of them were thief, homeless and murderer.

With the time of President Lincoln, people are savages and it seems the bullet can solve any problems. The law is under the governor or local mafia who has the army back up.

Young Guns are included Billy, Doc, Chavez, Dick, Dirty Steve and Charley, they are very good at guns, rifle, boxing and knifes.

They want to revenge for Tunstall. He was murdered by Murphy’s men because Murphy lost his benefit from Tunstall business.

These young guns who called themselves “Regulators” riding around the city and they kill not catch men who were involved with the death of Murphy or who is Murphy’s men.

However, every places has a rule, no one are above the law then, Young Gun who should be the regulator as they want, they turn to be an alleged offender with a prize $200.

They are running to the lawyer house of Tunstall for help and that would be the end of regulator because they were killed by the state troops and Murphy’s men.

Anyway, Billy, Doc and his girlfriend can escape from the battle. Also, Billy or Billy the Kid can kill Murphy at the end.

My opinion
I like this story because it shows the cowboy with country style of America at that time. I can see the mixing of culture such as Mexican and Indian in the story. Also, the character that I like is Chavez who really good with knife although this story wants to show the story of Billy the Kid, good at gun or very popular among cowboy story. Therefore, the story show an unfair greedy of people with can solve the problems by gun. And, problem of Indian who are been invaded.
